An Urbandale man wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of two central Iowa police officers early Wednesday was taken into custody in Dallas County.

According to law enforcement, 46 year-old Scott Michael Greene of Urbandale was walking on G Trail south of Redfield around 9am.  Greene flagged down a man driving the gravel road, showed him his ID and told the man to call police. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene and apprehended Greene.  He was taken to a Des Moines hospital and will be questioned by police.

According to the Des Moines Police Department, Urbandale Police officer Justin Martin was shot and killed while sitting in his patrol car shortly after 1am.  Around 20 minutes later, Des Moines Police Sergeant Anthony Beminio was also shot in an ambush-style attack while sitting in his vehicle and later died in the hospital.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says his department is sending their thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of those who lost their lives and the members of the Des Moines and Urbandale Police departments.  He says they’re operating with a heightened sense for their own safety.
