Iowa CattlemenThe special referendum vote for the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association recently passed by cattle owners.

The vote passed with 56 percent in favor and 44 percent against. The referendum is reinstating the $.50 per head of cattle for the Iowa Beef Checkoff. Funds raised by the assessment will be used for promoting and marketing Iowa’s beef and beef products; enhancing Iowa’s beef image; increased production research; expanding international trade opportunities and providing producer, consumer and youth educational opportunities.

There is a federal beef checkoff of $1 per head of cattle remains and wasn’t included in the special election for Iowa’s additional assessment. It will be imposed on cattle producers and cattle owners.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has until December 30th to verify the preliminary election results.
