Wrestling in 2017 was officially in full swing last night for the ADM Tiger wrestling team laying host to the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs in their first home meet of the season.
The Tigers sought a revenge victory over the Mustangs for defeating them last year, but a late surge by Dallas Center-Grimes took a 27-25 Tiger lead and turned it into a 27-38 loss for ADM. Five wins in all for the Tigers comprised of Hogan Hopewell, Leo Tauke, Charles Craigmile, and Kaden Sutton with wins by fall and Cooper Mardesen earning a victory by way of 5-3 decision. Andrew Flora suffered just his second loss falling in 4-3 decision.
It was a single mat format on the night but despite that and the outcome, it was an electric style atmosphere that was definitely felt by head coach Justin Schmauss in talking with Raccoon Valley Radio.
“Definitely a fun atmosphere, we had a lot of fans in the stands and having DC-G be so close, they bring a big crowd too. With having one mat it’s a different format than having our two mats with double duals or triangulars so brings a different feel when your just going heads up with other teams so definitely a good atmosphere. Wish we could have won a few more matches, there’s a lot of close ones looking back if our guys finish some moves some different ways or do some things differently and we would have won that dual. Kind of a tough pill to swallow but it gives some thins to work on,” explained coach Schmauus
The Tigers now see their dual meet record slip to 9-10 on the year so far. The Tigers will be back at it again tomorrow as they take to the road in Winterset to take on a 16 team field which will commence at 9:30 am
