It will be a jam packed couple of days for West Central Valley athletics both today and tomorrow.
The Wildcat basketball teams will be taking on Des Moines Christian in round two starting tonight in Stuart. The Lady Wildcats will do the honors of starting at 6:00 pm looking to avoid a scary mark of 13 consecutive losses to the Lady Lions, 7 of which have come on a Friday night where Des Moines Christian has averaged just over 18 points per win against the Lady Wildcats. The girls contest will tip things off at 6:00 pm.
The Wildcat boys squad will be looking to get back on the winning trail tonight against their Des Moines Christian counterpart. The Wildcats have been pretty solid as of late combining to outscore Madrid and Ogden by a combined score of 126-108. Last time out against Van Meter the Wildcats were handed a 29 point loss and went to the free throw line just nine times although they connected on 8 of those 9 free throw attempts. The Wildcats will aim to do what no team has been able to do all season which is to snag a win away from the Bulldogs who currently rest with a 17-0 record. The boys contest will end off the night starting at 7:30 pm.
On Saturday Wildcat wrestling will take center stage as they take the road trip on down to Guthrie Center to square off in the class 1A sectional 13 tournament. Last season when West Central Valley headed down to Guthrie Center for sectional play, they came away with a 4th place finish and sending four individuals onto district play including returning state qualifier Tye Joint. The tournament will kick off from Guthrie Center Saturday beginning at noon. The top two place winners from each weight class will then move on to the district 7 tournament in Underwood on February 11th.
