Jefferson-based boys’ basketball teams have had their share of good players over the years, but not many have been voted onto all-state teams over the past 40 years. One more name was added to that list earlier this week when Greene County High School senior Trey Tucker was selected to the Iowa Newspaper Association Class 3A second all-state team. Tucker averaged 24.5 points this season in helping the Rams to a 14-8 record and a second place finish in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference at 13-3.

Chris Nelson completed his first season as Greene County’s head coach, but he’s been a head coach in Iowa for 10 years, and Tucker is Nelson’s first All-State player. The coach talked about his player. “He really adjusted well to the leadership role we asked him to take. On the basketball side, he’s as gifted a player as I’ve ever had, and is one of the better ones that Greene County has obviously had, and probably for the Jefferson-based area, in a long, long time. He’s got a real knack for scoring points! He is an offensive minded guy, and I think this year he did a good job of not only getting his points, but creating for other people as well. Probably the biggest thing we saw from him defensively, was he stepped up and wanted ownership of shutting good players down. He also rebounded very well for us.”

Tucker led the Rams in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals.
