rep_BaltimoreIowa lawmakers are trying to help school districts by giving them flexibility in how they spend some of their money.

District 47 Representative Chip Baltimore says the House passed legislation that would lessen the costs for school districts in areas of need.

“Under the right circumstances, school districts can responsibly have more flexibility in terms of what they use these special pots of money for to try and help them alleviate some of these challenges that they have.”

One of the areas is in transportation, Greene County School District is the eighth largest geographical district in the state and Baltimore says the bill would also help with those costs.

“This will give Greene County School District more flexibility in using other funds to help cover some of those transportation costs, so they don’t have to continuously dip into their general funds to cover to cover those transportation costs.”

The bill is now in the Senate for consideration.
