Now that the calendar has flipped to May, that means the Mahanay Bell Tower in Jefferson will be open to the public.
Tour Guide Coordinator Pat Richards says the bell tower will only be open Saturdays and Sundays in May from 10am to 4pm. She adds that adult admissions are $3, while youth under the age of 18 are admitted for free, due to the sponsorship of Beta Tau Delta. She notes that they’ve already had 50 three through five year-olds visit the bell tower last week and were able to see the local landmark for free. Greene County Chamber Office Coordinator Sheilah McGregor Pound is excited to see the support for youth to explore one of the amenities of the county.
“I think it’s great and I think it gives our young people a chance to go up without having to worry about, ‘Can I go? Can I go?’ It’s kind of neat to be able to have that freedom to just go up whenever they want.”
The bell tower will be open everyday starting on Memorial Day.
