Perseverance paying off was evident on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson for the Greene County High School baseball team. That was the case for the team overall, and for senior pitcher Dylan Fouch. The right hander threw the first seven inning complete game of his career and the Rams broke a 2-2 tie with South Hamilton by scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth en route to a 5-2 victory. The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference victory put the Rams at 3-2 in the league and 3-3 overall, while the Hawks fell to 2-6 on the season and 0-5 in league play.
Fouch evened his record at 1-1 by scattering 10 hits, walking no one, and striking out two. He relied on his defense, which came through with several good plays. The Rams had one error, a throwing miscue, which did not cost them any runs.
Offensively, senior Trey Tucker continues his hot hitting. An infield single and two doubles put him at three for three on the night, and nine for 20 on the season. Junior Tom Gannon tripled past the left fielder into the corner, and sophomore Austin Delp added a pair of singles. Number nine hitter Logan Lansman, a senior, singled and walked, and junior Ben Wilkins had a single and was hit by a pitch.
Although the Hawks out hit the Rams 10 to eight, they were absent of big rallies and stranded seven base runners. SH also had four errors, three of those in the deciding sixth inning.
Greene County is 1-1 at home and has played four of its first six on the road. That trend continues with three of four away from Jefferson next week starting with a road trip to Nevada on Monday.
