Landus-Logo_Color-300x159Landus Cooperative and the City of Jefferson are one step closer to an agreement for the cooperative to utilize the City’s wastewater system.

Landus came to the City this past winter asking if they could dispose of 200 gallons of ammonia water per day into the City’s wastewater system. The ammonia water is coming from a Landus site outside of Greene County, and their proposal would only be for the next three to five years. Currently, the cooperative is using neighboring farmland to dispose of the water, and the Department of Natural Resources wants Landus to clean up their groundwater.

Sanitary Superintendent Danny Moranville says the added gallons of ammonia from Landus will not put their system above their capacity. Landus Representatives have said the added water will be the equivalent to 65 households.

The formal agreement was presented to the City’s street/sewer/water/sanitation committee by Bolton and Menk. The committee recommended adding a stipulation in the agreement that the cooperative will not go over 200 gallons per day and there be a meter to measure the daily amount before it goes to the City Council for final approval.
