Greene County head volleyball coach Donna Carhill watched her team drop all five matches on Saturday at the Pella Tournament. The coach said, “We knew at the beginning of the season that we would need to overcome inexperience on our team. With larger, (mostly) 4A schools to compete against, we gained a great deal of experience at this tournament. With a few exceptions, we played competitively with most teams. We learned a great deal about digging tough kills and working to run an aggressive offense at this tournament. As it has been with the many of our matches this year, we can play with tough opponents, but just never seem to get in the win column.”

She added, “We did try some new defensive strategies against our opponents and we seemed to get more digs and a few more blocks today, so we were pleased with that.”

The Rams fell 5-22 in matches with 19 straight matches lost. Scores were 6-21, 16-21 vs. Medaiapolis, 11-21, 11-21 vs. ADM, 18-21, 15-21 vs. Boone, 8-21, 10-21 vs. Class 4A fourth ranked Pella, and 21-14, 17-21, 12-15, vs. Knoxville.

Brianna Osterson went 37 of 44 serving with seven aces. Sophia Havens was 34 of 38 with one serving ace, and Kara Reed was 16 for 16 at the service line. Megan Durbin had 31 kills and 38 digs. Samantha Hardaway had 11 kills. Chantel Flack had 48 digs, while Aubrey Heupel had 23 digs and 56 assists.

ADM won the tournament title with Pella finishing second.
