The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday.
City Administrator Laura Wolfe and Mayor Dennis Kunkle shared the newest employee health insurance rates. The rates dropped just over 16 percent, which is a savings of $2,500 per person per year. The Council also moved to replace two canopies at the Guthrie Center Aquatic Center. The canopies cost over $1,000 each and the Parks and Recreation Board approved the Council’s control of the replacement. Finally the Council approved Main Street Guthrie Center to install Christmas lights on City Hall.
The Council spent the majority of the meeting discussing various nuisance issues in the community and how those issues could be best resolved. Council member Randy Nickel summed up the discussion. “We need to get to a point (where) the municipal infraction and the magistrate either agree or disagree with us. If they agree they levy a fine and say ‘City, go clean it up’.”
The Council also discussed implications from nuisance fines on state licenses.
