Perry High School will be hosting their annual Veterans Day celebration this Friday, and the public is encouraged to attend and honor soldiers present and past.
The day will start at 8 a.m. with morning refreshments in the Brady Library. The 29th annual PHS Social Studies Department Veterans Day Panel Presentation will follow at 9 a.m. The theme of the panel is “We Were Soldiers,” and will feature Matt Bramer, Jana DeKoter, Travis Murphy, and Bill Robertson. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Gary Overla and Mr. John Fulton. At 10 a.m., the 20th annual Veterans Day Celebration will begin in the Perry Performing Arts Center, with Mike Powell serving as the master of ceremonies.
The program will start with the posting of the colors and veterans procession, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star Spangled Banner.” Powell will then give introductory remarks and discuss the origins of Veterans Day. The high school’s select choir will then perform “A Tribute to the Armed Services,” and veterans in the audience are asked to stand accordingly with their military branch hymn. That will be followed by a special recognition of the Wilson Family by Perry Historic Preservation.
The featured speaker will be American Legion Commander Mike Kelly. There will also be several musical performances and video presentations. The program will conclude with the playing of “Taps.” Following the celebration, there will be a Veterans Day luncheon in the gymnasium. Each event throughout the day is free and open to the public.
