The first competition of 2018 saw the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers wrestling team grapple a nonconference rival Thursday. The Tigers made the short trip to Grimes to compete against the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs on the mat. ADM recorded three victories in 12 contested duals, falling to DCG, 55-15. The Tigers recorded two wins by fall and another decision victory.
One of the highlights for ADM came in the first match of the evening. Freshman Cole Williamson recorded a first-round pinfall over DCG Dakota Arends in 1:24. ADM wrestling coach Chris Hatchitt said Williamson is new to the sport of wrestling. “(This is the) first year he’s out for the sport, and he’s picking it up.” Hatchitt said, “He’s buying into the hustle and effort, physical and aggressive and he’s getting after it. He’s learning, and he’s doing a good job. He’s improved tremendously from the first two weeks of practice.”
ADM’s other pinfall victory came from sophomore Kaden Sutton (220), pinning Blake Willey 3:32 into their match. The Tigers other three points came via junior Andrew Flora (113), winning a 5-0 decision over DCG’s Ayden Kovaleski. The Mustangs scored points on four falls, two major decisions, two forfeits, a technical fall, a decision, and sudden victory. The loss drops ADM’s dual record to 4-13 overall. The Tiger wrestlers are back on the mat this Saturday, competing in the Gary Christensen Invite hosted by Winterset Community Schools.
