The start of the second half of the high school basketball season was pushed to tonight for the West Central Valley Wildcats. Bone-chilling temperatures Tuesday forced the postponement of the Wildcats’ first West Central Activities Conference game against the Des Moines Christian Lions in Urbandale. The teams hope to make up the contest on Thursday, January 18. West Central Valley returns to the floor tonight in Stuart when they welcome the Earlham Cardinals to town for a league doubleheader.
The last time West Central Valley basketball was in action came on December 21 in Liberty Center as the Wildcats swept a nonconference doubleheader against Southeast Warren Warhawks. The Wildcat girls basketball team improved their record to 4-5 overall with a 55-30 victory over Southeast Warren; The Wildcat boys basketball team snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 57-49 triumph over the Warhawks.
The Earlham basketball teams started their second-half competition Tuesday at home against the Woodward-Granger Hawks. The Cardinals swept the Hawks, taking the girls contest, 38-22, and the boys game, 50-40. The varsity doubleheader tips off at 6 p.m. with the girl’s competition, and the boys will follow from West Central Valley High School in Stuart.
