The Greene County School Board met in special session Wednesday night.
The Board approved a special election to issue $21,480,000 in general obligation school bonds to build a new high school and regional career academy. The Board received a petition to put the measure on a ballot for April 3rd. The petition had 219 signatures and were required to get at least 194 signatures, or 25-percent of the votes from the last election.
According to a report from Piper Jaffray, the tax rate of $2.70 per $1,000 property valuation of the taxable value of a $100,000 assessed value of residential property would result in the property owner paying about $137 per year toward the bond.
School Board member Steve Karber said a community group called “Our Kids, Our Future Greene County” will be spearheading meetings and information about the bond. The group is led by Dr. Keith Van Beek and Bill Raney.
