
As April’s weather forecast continues to be unseasonably cold, finding a noncancelled track meet to compete in has provided a new challenge for area schools.The Panorama Panther track teams and the Adel-Desoto-Minburn girl’s track squad braved the unfavorable conditions Thursday night in southern Dallas County, competing in the nonteam scored Van Meter Last Minute Invitational. The meet featured only running events, and both ADM and Panorama had several first-place finishes.
ADM and Panorama won five events each in the girls meet. Highlighting the Tigers was senior Keaton Kester placing first in the 100 and 200-meter dash races (12.7-100 meter/26.51-200 meter). Other top finishes include junior Sadie Jurgens in the 800-meter run (2:22.4), junior Anna Kenny in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.04), and the 800 sprint medley team (Sami Schepers, Kenny, Kester, and Jurgens-1:53.81). Three of Panorama’s five first-place finishes came from relay teams including the 4×200 (Payton Douglass, Lydia Knapp, Carson Fisher, and Kassidy Bremer-1:55.82), 4×400 (Gwen Steffen, Olivia Steffen, Bailey Beckman, and Devyn Kemble-4:20.24), and the shuttle hurdle relay (Maggie Woodvine, Shey Storesund, Douglass, and Morgan Johnk). Other top finishes came from freshman Gwen Steffen in the 400-meter dash (1:05.31) and junior Morgan Johnk in the 100-meter hurdles (15.92).
The Panorama boys track team won a pair of events in Van Meter. Junior Spencer Hunt topped the 100-meter dash race with a time of 11.73 seconds. The 800 sprint medley crew of Luke South, Zach Rizzuti, Gracen Welberg, and Hunt cross the finish line with the meets best time at 1:39.49.
Panorama’s track programs return to competition Tuesday in the Earlham Invitational. The ADM girls track team resumes their season Thursday at the Waukee Relays.
