Less than favorable weather conditions aren’t keeping the West Central Valley golf teams from competing in early season meets. Thursday marked the third nine-hole golf event for the Wildcats boys and girls since March 30, hosting golfers from CAM, Exira-EHK, and Coon Rapids-Bayard at the 5 x 80 golf course near Menlo. Three members of the Wildcat boys golf team carded nine-hole scores at or below 46 strokes, winning their first event of the season with 178 shots. The West Central Valley girls didn’t have enough participants to garner a team score.
West Central Valley freshman Grant Caltrider registered his first medalist performance of his high school career, carding a two-over 38. His older brother, senior Garrett Caltrider, was the Wildcats second lowest score with 42 while junior Cole Arnburg completed his round in 46 shots.
A pair of juniors on the Wildcat girls golf team posted identical scores in their latest home meet. Darby Davis and Jaicee Wathne completed nine holes in 64 shots Thursday. Freshman Emma Johnson rounded out the Wildcats scoring with 77 strokes. Weather permitting, the West Central Valley golf teams return to action Monday at the Sugar Creek Golf Course near Waukee for a West Central Activities Conference triangular versus the Earlham Cardinals and the Ogden Bulldogs.
