A heads up to motorists, today and tomorrow there will be an increase in bicycle traffic along the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

It’s the annual Des Moines Cycle Club’s Tour the Raccoon event. Bike riders are traveling on the south loop of the trail today, going through towns including: Waukee, Adel, Redfield, Linden, Panora, Yale, Herndon, Cooper and staying overnight in Jefferson. Then on Sunday, riders will be on the north loop, and will go through the towns of Jamaica, Dawson, Perry, Minburn, and Dallas Center, before ending back in Waukee. Overnight parking will be available in Jefferson at one of the school buildings.

Motorists need to be aware of bicyclists being on the trail and crossing several different roadways along the way to ensure everyone is safe.
