Greene County ended a four game baseball losing streak with a 6-3 win at Allensworth Field in Jefferson on Thursday night over Carroll High in non-conference play. The Rams rode a strong six-inning pitching performance from senior Ben Wilkins, plus a five-run fifth, to improve to 2-4 on the season. The Tigers fell to 1-5 and have lost their last four contests.

Bryce Hoyle put the Rams up 1-0 in the second inning with a run scoring single, and the Tigers tied the game with an unearned run in the third. It stayed 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth. Brent Riley opened the frame with a double, and that was followed by RBI singles from Tyler Teeples and Jordan Patterson. Wade Adcock picked up a run batted in on a fielder’s choice for the third run of the frame. Nick Breon doubled home Adcock, and Breon scored on a base hit from Wilkins, who went three for three on the night.

Greene County had 10 hits and three errors, to four hits and three errors for the Tigers. Carroll pitching did not issue a single walk, while Wilkins and reliever Branden Hoyle combined to walk six batters and hit two more with pitches. Wilkins allowed three hits in six innings, to go with four walks and, one hit batter, and eight strikeouts.

The Rams take on PCM tonight in Prairie City in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action, where they are 0-3.
