The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, the Board discussed denying an alcohol permit to Back Pocket Brewery from last week with Steve Linn, a representative from the brewery, as well as the Iowa Craft Beer Tent. It was in reference to when the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) comes through Greene County on July 23rd. Linn spoke to the Board that RAGBRAI officials have a “shut-down” time for when alcohol sales are supposed to be done by. The brewery wanted to have a booth just south of Scranton. He also said that they have 14 licenses either approved or in the process of being approved across the state for this year’s event and that Greene County was the only one to deny them a permit. Board Chair John Muir said the Board will further discuss the issue.

The Board then approved an agreement with Brooke, Borg and Skiles for architectural work on the HVAC replacement project for the courthouse. The cost is not to exceed $134,850. The Board also approved a petition to do an engineer’s report to create a new drainage district in Scranton Township, as well as canvassing the votes from last Tuesday’s primary election, with no changes in the results.

The Board heard an update from Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer. He said the City’s wayfinding signs will be installed before RAGBRAI comes to town next month. He talked about the three downtown buildings that the City owns, including the former Pizza Ranch building, which Palmer noted that Pizza Ranch is no longer interested in coming back to that location. He mentioned that the City has applied with Region XII Council of Governments for a $25,000 grant through Union Pacific Railroad for the landscaping portion of the east entryway project.
