A reminder that this morning is the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off event in Jefferson.
It is for Jefferson residents only and no schools, businesses or farms may participate without prior approval from the City. Volunteers will be available to accept items such as rechargeable batteries, fertilizers, stains and varnishes, fluorescent light bulbs, ammonia-based cleaners and other items from 9 to 11am on the north side of the downtown square. Some of the items that won’t be accepted include electronics, latex paint, propane tanks and others. A complete list of what will and won’t be accepted can be found below.
Items accepted:
Aerosol cleaners, paints
Ammonia-based cleaners
Antifreeze
Batteries (only rechargeable)
Fertilizers
Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs)
Gasoline, Kerosene
Oil, lead-based paint
Stains, Varnishes
Metal polishes, rust removers
Thermometers (mercury)
Thermostats (mercury)
Pesticides
Petroleum adhesives
Used oil filters
Sharps or needles (must be contained)
Items not accepted:
Ammunition
Asbestos
Electronics
Explosives
Fire extinguishers
Latex paint
Medications
Propane tanks, cylinders
Radioactive materials
