Greene County rolled to a 68-0 non-district high school football victory at Saydel High School in Des Moines on Friday night in a game heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. This team is 3-0 after the previous two Greene County teams were a combined 2-16. The 3-0 start is the first for any of the first seven seasons playing as Greene County. The 68 points are also a high water mark playing as Greene County.

Coach Mitch Moore’s team led 7-0 after one quarter, then took advantage of four Saydel turnovers in quarter number two and turned them into 28 points. In all, the Eagles turned the ball over eight times compared to two turnovers by the Rams. Greene County held a 42-0 advantage at halftime and the second half was played with a continuous clock since the margin was 35 points or greater at halftime or later. The Rams score 13 points in both the third and fourth quarters. Greene County out gained the Eagles 423-42. Greene County had 283 yards on 18 rushing attempts with Senior Clint Dennhardt gaining 132 yards on just five carries and junior Colby Kafer adding 117 yards on seven rushes.

Kafer opened the scoring with 4:33 to play in the first quarter on a run of 25 yards. Senior Trey Hinote intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a TD with 10:14 to play in the second quarter. With 7:51 to go before halftime, Dennhardt ran 19 yards for a score, then with 7:00 to go in the period, Dennhardt caught a TD pass of 11 yards from junior quarterback Brent Riley. Junior Xavier Hayes caught a TD pass covering 20 yards from Riley with 1:57 to play in the second, and that was quickly followed by a Riley to junior Carter Morton touchdown pass covering 37 yards with 1:27 left before intermission. Kafer opened the second half scoring with a TD run of 91 yards with 4:43 to play in that quarter. Dennhardt added a touchdown run of 51 yards with 13 seconds to go in the quarter. Dennhardt scored again, this time on a run of 54 yards with 8:01 left in the game, and the last TD came from junior Joel Ward with 3:15 to play on a run covering 15 yards. Cael Fisher went eight for eight on extra points.

Riley finished 6-13-1 throwing the ball, all in the first half, for 140 yards and three TDs. This was his second three touchdown pass game in a row and the right hander now had eight TD passes in three games.

Dennhardt was the Raccoon Valley Radio Fouch Agri-Service Player of the Game, and senior Brock Wuebker was the Unsung Hero presented by Moo Meat of Scranton. Wuebker recovered three Saydel fumbles and was in on numerous tackles. He also played right tackle on offense.
