Expected heavy rainfall begins today and prompts a river flood watch to be in effect later this week in part of our listening area.

According to the National Weather Service, Greene and Guthrie counties can expect between four to six-inches of rainfall from today through Wednesday, while Dallas County may see three to four-inches. The peak times for rainfall for Sunday begins later tonight.

All of Greene and Guthrie counties, along with the northwestern third of Dallas County are under a marginal risk for flood potential tonight. The rest of Dallas County is under a slight risk. The risk for flood potential increases steadily each day, with all three counties being under a moderate risk by Tuesday. Because of that, the National Weather Service has issued a river flood watch for the Raccoon River in Greene and Dallas counties from Tuesday through next Sunday.

The one to count on for weather-related information is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
