The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Assistant County Attorney Thomas Laehn requested to install a door between his current office and the secretary office of the county attorney’s office on the third floor of the courthouse. He said it would help with providing a safe space to talk with witnesses and victims before trials and allow the secretary to see into the conference room to prevent any false accusations. A security camera option was also discussed. No formal action was taken by the Board.

Also during open forum, county resident Denny Lautner addressed the Board, asking what their salary was and what kinds of financial benefits they received. The salary was $26,993 per supervisor, and they also receive county insurance, including a $25,000 life insurance policy.

The Board then heard an update from Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer. He reviewed a visit from 25 Pillar Technology employees who looked at the location of what will eventually become The Forge at 204-206 East State Street. Palmer also gave updates on the three downtown buildings the City owns, as well as an update on the Highway 4 resurfacing project and asked for a board member to join the Highway 30 Coalition. The Board agreed to have someone be on the committee to make Highway 30 4-lane from Ogden to Jefferson.

The Board approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for September of $15,193 and the County Auditor’s quarterly passport report of fees for July through September of $1,330 for 38 passports. Additionally, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave a brief update. He said the bridge replacement project on County Road E-18 has been slow, due to water going over the dam. He anticipated the bridge to be replaced yet this year, but the approaches may be installed temporarily and completed by next spring.

Finally, the Board then held a discussion of creating an open record policy. Laehn proposed a policy for the Board to adopt that would be used by all departments that report directly to the Board. He also encouraged all elected county offices to adopt their own policies as well. The proposed policy includes charging for photocopies of county records, supplying them on different kinds of media, charging for an employee’s time, as well as a timetable to respond to a request from the public. The Board made changes and will look to adopt the policy at next week’s meeting.
