
The Perry School Board convened Monday evening in regular session.
The meeting began with open forum, where teachers and students involved in the Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (IJAG) program discussed their recent successes. Three of the students will even by participating in a national competition this year in Washington, D.C. After that, the Board had a conversation with a representative from SVPA Architects about the latest on the planning stage for the new industrial technology and wrestling room facility. The Board tabled a decision on moving forward with a bond issue and specifications for the project, though they will convene next week for a special session to continue discussion.
Next, Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee went over a marketing plan, which the Board hopes will help improve the public perception of the District. Following the presentation, they approved entering into an agreement with the radio station for a year’s worth of marketing. The total cost will be around $9100, which will be paid from the Superintendent’s budget. Also in general business, the Board approved revisions to the parent handbook for Perry’s Academic, Cultural, and Enrichment Services (PACES) program, as well as a plan to purchase state participant t-shirts for qualified students for the current school year.
Finally, the board approved a request for $131,337.67 in Limited English Proficiency (LEP) allowable growth from the School Budget Review Committee.
