Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, which means an extra hour of sleep as we fall back with our clocks.
Remember to set back your clocks one hour as Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, which means an earlier sunrise and an earlier sunset. It’s also a recommended time to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and change batteries. This weekend can also be a time to discuss fire escape plans with your family. Guthrie Center Fire Chief Dave Embleton stresses the importance of a fire escape plan, “Well, we tell everybody to ahead plan of course and have at least two escape routes out of every room whether it be your bedroom, maybe it’s out a window.”
According to the National Fire Protection Association, three out of five home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties with no smoke alarms or non-working alarms. Alarms with replaceable batteries should be changed at least once a year.
