Fall is the time of year to dispose of yard waste, and Guthrie County residents should check their City’s ordinance before they decide to burn leaves and brush.

The City of Guthrie Center permits open burning of yard waste on the resident’s property. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, and brush. Trees are permitted to be burned on a City-operated burning site, conducted in compliance with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Guthrie Center residents wishing to dispose of yard waste can drop it off at the transfer station on 2349 Jaguar Trail.

Stuart City Code states that yard waste can be burned on the premises or placed in degradable bags, containers, or packages and set out for collection at such times set by the City Council. Stuart residents can take yard waste to the collection site located on Southeast 6th Street, which is open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. until December 1st.

Panora City Code allows open burning of residential waste on properties of dwellings of four family units or less, referred to as “Backyard Burning.” Open burning of trees and tree trimmings are permitted at a City-operated burning site, conducted in compliance with the Iowa DNR. Panora residents can dispose of tree branches and brush at a dump site located near the City’s water plant. A key must be obtained either at the plant or City Hall to access the dump.
