The Greene County Supervisors recently hired a part-time County Veterans Service Director.

The Board hired Michael Bierl at a rate of $18 per hour until July 1st and then the rate will increase to $19. Once Bierl is certified in the position, his rate will go up to $20 per hour. Former Veterans Service Director Tracie Perez submitted her resignation this past August to move to Texas and the job has been vacant until the Supervisors hired Bierl this past Monday.

Board Chair John Muir says there is a separate veterans commission that does the interview process and makes a recommendation to them for a final decision of who to hire for the position.

“Since the resignation, they lost a member of their commission and things just didn’t fall into place well. (Supervisor) Mick Burkett lined up some interviews with people who had put applications in, we advertised for the position. There was a bigger gap then there should have been. But I’m hoping moving forward we’ll be in a much better place.”

The position that Perez had also included general assistance, which is now held by Greene County Disabilities Services Coordinator Ellen Ritter. The Supervisors approved that change this past October.

Bierl will be working 20-hours per week with his office being on the first floor of the Greene County Courthouse. His office number is 386-5673.
