The Greene County Sheriff’s office had a busy Thursday afternoon responding to over a dozen incidents of vehicles in the ditches.

The primary culprit was the blowing snow creating 100-percent ice-covered roads, according to Sheriff Jack Williams. The issues started happening with a semi-tractor trailer that had slid on the icy roads, on Highway 4 near Cooper, and had jackknifed across both lanes of traffic. Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio they had to shut down part of the highway for four hours while crews removed the semi. Williams adds that the rest of the afternoon, he and deputies responded to over a dozen other vehicles that had slid off the road, due to the ice, and went into the ditches across the county.

However, Williams points out there were no injuries and they didn’t have to put on a tow ban at anytime.
