
It’s day two of the Iowa High School State Wrestling tournament at Well Fargo Arena in Des Moines. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations are carrying play-by-play of all area wrestlers in all three classes, as will wwwraccoonvalleyradio.com. The tournament began on Thursday with 35 area qualifiers and 26 advanced to day two.
Class 3A gets the action going today at 9 am. with three from Dallas Center-Grimes and two from Woodward, wrestling for Dowling Catholic (West Des Moines). Luke Fistler at 160 lbs. from DC-G is in the quarterfinals. Fellow Mustangs Trey Wells (126) and Brayden Broderick (132) will wrestle in the second consolation round. Ethan Mahoney (113) and Alex Kirton (285) are from Woodward and will wrestle for the Maroons on the consolation side of the bracket.
Six Class 1A wrestlers will flow the 3A wrestlers late this morning. Those in the quarterfinals are ACGC’s Blaine Beeler (120) and Easton Benson (138), along with Carson Wadle (195) from West Central Valley. Class 1A area wrestlers in the second consolation round are Elliott Cooney (106) of Nodaway Valley, Gunnar Larsen (132) of ACGC, and Waytt Appleseth (145) from Panorama.
There are 15 2A area wrestlers still in contention. Nine are quarterfinalists and six will be in the second consolation round. Those in this afternoon’s quarterfinals include all three ADM wrestlers, all three Winterset Huskies,, plus one from Perry, one from Van Meter/Earlham, and one from Woodward-Granger. Those in the quarterfinals are Andrew Flora (126), Nolan Harsh (182), and Kaden Sutton (220) from ADM, Winterset’s Bryce Hatten (126), Kruise Kiburz (132), and Jack West (145), Perry’s Kaleb Olejinczak (138), VM/E’s Caleb Swalla (160), and Cody Fisher (220) from Woodward-Granger. Class 2A wrestlers on the consolation side are Cole Nelson (106) from Perry, Bryce Hoyle (195) from Greene County, Ty Lawrenson (285) from W-G, and Colby Wiederholt (120), Sam Miller (170), and Darrin Sesker (285), all from VM/E’lam.
