Starting this weekend, the Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson is kicking off a special fundraiser.

The “Let’s Make It Reel” fundraiser includes three free movies provided by the Nancy Morris Memorial Fund. The showings start with the 1964 classic “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” with 7pm showings from Friday through Sunday and a Sunday matinee at 2pm. The next movie will be 1982’s “Tootsie” with two nighttime showings at 7pm on April 22nd and 23rd, along with an afternoon matinee at 2pm on the 23rd. The final movie is from 1962 with “How the West Was Won” with 7pm showings on April 24th and 25th and a 2pm matinee on the 25th.

There will also be an open house this Saturday from 5 to 7pm to showcase the updated restrooms and concession stand area. The project was made possible from a Greene County Community Foundation grant and other donations. Manager Sarah Nicholson says through the support of the community they were able to update the restrooms to include more space and add an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant restroom. She adds that the “Let’s Make It Reel” fundraiser continues that dream of turning their theatre projects into a reality and highlight the importance that the community plays.

Nicholson points out that board member Mike Pieple will make a presentation before the first showing of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.” All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward continuing updates of the theatre and the summer kids’ film event.
