The renovation of the Dallas County Courthouse is currently about 25% complete, with the next two-quarters of construction currently underway.

Work has begun on the entirety of the first floor, after the Fifth Judicial Clerk of Court and Juvenile Court Services moved into their new offices, located on the east side of the second floor. The demolition of the existing offices is nearly complete, after which time the contractor, Trinity Construction of Des Moines, will start the remodel in earnest. The east side of the floor will house the Treasurer’s Motor Vehicle Department, while the west wing is where the County Recorder and Treasurer’s Tax Department will office.

The project is potentially a little behind schedule, as Trinity requested their deadline to be extended by five working days. They explained that the process of moving the Clerk and Juvenile offices took longer than expected, and they don’t want to give the new first floor occupants false hope of moving in early. The original completion date was May 20th, but it’s now expected to be May 28th. Once the Treasurer and Recorder move from their current offices on the second floor, the County will seek a contractor for the final phase of the project, which is turning the west wing of the floor into a new courtroom.
