Any Jefferson resident looking to rid their home of hazardous waste materials can do so tomorrow with an annual event.

The Hazardous Waste Drop-off will take place on the north side of the downtown square in Jefferson from 9-11am. There are several items that will be accepted including oil and lead-based paints, fertilizers, antifreeze, pesticides, stains and varnishes, sharps or needles in a container, among others. Some of the items that will not be accepted include ammunition, asbestos, latex paint, electronics, fire extinguishers, and others. Commercial items will not be accepted.

City Administrator Mike Palmer talks about one aspect that they are bringing back for residents.

“We’re going to have a tire drop-off. So residents can bring residential tires in. We’re not going to take large tractor tires, and the tires have to be off of the rims.”

Palmer adds that the tire drop-off will take place at the same time in the parking lot west of City Hall. He notes that the event is for Jefferson residents only.
