One of the things discussed in the Guthrie County sports page with West Central Valley activities director David Doely was athletes in the school being multi-sport athletes. Senior West Central Valley player Jenna Merical is one of those players, as she played four different sports during all seasons this last Iowa calendar year with volleyball, basketball, track & field, and softball.
Now most high school athletes around the country only have to worry about fall, winter, and spring sports that is offered through their school, since that’s the only times those sports are offered. In the state of Iowa however; they are the only state in the country that has full regular seasons for both softball and baseball during the summer, which means athletes schedules can get very busy rather quickly.
Merical probably hasn’t had a lot of downtime since the softball season was over just a few weeks ago, but she will continue to press forward as the volleyball season starts in just over a week for West Central Valley.
