The countdown to the 2019 general election begins as candidates have filed for Guthrie County-area school board and city council seats.

The City of Stuart has two open council seats this election, and two candidates have filed, Michael Kalbach and Kristina Renslow. In Guthrie Center incumbent council member Mike Herbert has filed for the vacant mayoral seat, incumbents Garold Thomas and Ian Steensen have filed for council seats, as well as Bill Wagner, Caleb Wulf, and Fidel Hernandez. For the City of Panora, incumbent Mayor Patrick Parker has filed for reelection, and Shane Gliem has filed for one of two vacant council seats.

The West Central Valley School Board has five district seats open and five people have filed: incumbent Harry Light for District One, Eric Gerling and Jen Clemetson for District Four, incumbent Jill Caltrider for District Five, and Brandi Coil for District Six. The Panorama School Board has three seats open and five people have filed: incumbent Deborah Westergaard for District Three, Kellie Flanery and incumbent Lila Lutz for District Four, and Lucas Wendl and Damon Crandall for District Five. The Adair-Casey School Board has two incumbents that have filed for reelection, Randy Carney and Dallas Dinkla. For the Guthrie Center School Board, incumbents Tim Benson and Wanda Knobbe have filed, as well as Wilma Stetzel.

This year’s election will also include a measure on whether to grant the Xenia Rural Water District a nonexclusive franchise to provide water to the City of Bagley, and a measure to enter into a loan agreement of $800,000 for a Guthrie Center municipal bathhouse project.
