The staff at the McCreary Community Building in Perry knew that they would be without heat for a few weeks as the old boilers and chillers for the facility are switched out, though it began a little sooner than they expected.

The one boiler that remained in operation gave out Wednesday, giving an early start to the time frame for when the facility would be without heat. The new boilers and chillers will be installed starting this Monday, though the building will remain open for business. However, one aspect of the rec center that bears monitoring is the pool temperature. Aquatics Director Kami Kirchner says while the pool is without heat, she’ll notify the public of what to expect before they dive in. “So we are going to keep people updated throughout the progress of our updates to the pool (and) to the McCreary Center in general. With the pool temperature falling, I will be posting daily updates. I hope to post a few times a day just what the temperature is, so people can look before maybe they show up and they jump into 77-degree water, which would be pretty cold! We will stay open throughout everything for the pool, it just might be a little cold when you get in.”

The new boilers and chillers are expected to be installed and ready to use by October 28th. In the meantime, Kirchner points out, the showers, sinks, hot tub, and sauna will all remain heated. Click the link below to visit the McCreary Center’s Facebook page for updates on the project.
