Healthcare, trade, and bipartisan politics were just some of the topics discussed when U.S. Representative Cindy Axne (D) visited Guthrie County Thursday.

As part of her monthly 16-county tour, Iowa’s Third District Congresswoman stopped at Guthrie County Veterinary Services in Guthrie Center. She met with the business owners Dr. Doug Frels and Dr. Donna Paglialunga (paya-lunga) and the other clinic staff and several of their clients who gave their concerns on the trade war with China, farm bailout, and the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.

Axne explains why she chose the veterinary clinic for this month’s Guthrie County event, “Well, I think stopping by here really addresses two issues: talking with small business owners as well as folks who are heavily involved with the issues related to agriculture. And certainly coming to a veterinarian in Guthrie County is very different than going to a downtown Des Moines veterinarian, all of the issues that they’re facing in regard to the issues that our farmers are facing is really important to hear about and just wanting to make it part of our stop. I’m trying to meet as many of our business owners as possible as well to understand their issues.”

Dr. Frels said he appreciated Rep. Axne visiting his business, and he spoke on his hope for Democrats and Republicans to work better together to solve bipartisan issues. Axne also visited a local business in Greenfield, and held a town hall in Waukee Thursday.
