This coming Wednesday, the City of Perry will be hosting their annual Safety and Employee Appreciation Day, paying tribute to the employees’ years of service and also educating them on proper safety techniques.
Assistant Public Works Director Josh Wuebker is once again organizing the event, which he said started several years ago when the City was in danger of losing workers compensation insurance due to too many accidents. Since then, Wuebker says their claims have plummeted, and the appreciation day is a good way for the City to recognize the staff’s efforts. “Rewarding employees for different things that are something that we kind of take for granted, is a big deal to me. Because at the end of the day, you know I work with Public Works and the garbage guys and stuff, so I want to make sure all those guys go home at the end of the day. There’s nothing more that we want. That’s one thing that the City of Perry is very, very good at, is always taking care of the employees and putting the employees first along with their families. But there’s nothing more important than those guys and gals going home at the end of the day.”
The celebration will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on October 30th in the Perry Police Department’s sally port. There will be a presentation by the Safety Director from Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella, flu shots for all employees, an address by City Administrator Sven Peterson, and a demonstration from Dallas County Emergency Medical Services Director Mike Thomason.
