New Opportunities of Greene County recently completed its Warm Hearts Coat Drive.

Coordinator Teresa Lansman says it was a successful fundraiser, as they served 125 children this year. She talks about a change that was made, due to all of the additional coats they received through donations.

“This year was kind of unique because they decided to have the kids come in and try on the coats. The kids and the families kind of got to shop for their own coats. So if they didn’t like the color blue, they got to pick a pink jacket instead.”

Lansman appreciates the coat donations and still has plenty on hand if different situations arise.

“I always keep that in mind so if a family comes in the middle of winter and something has happened, the house fires, disasters, we have coats available. At that time they don’t necessarily get that choice, but we have something to keep them warm.”

Lansman adds they are currently accepting donations for their Greene County Toys, as well as holiday food baskets for clients. To learn more about either program, contact Lansman at 515-386-2719.
