The main lobby of the Greene County Medical Center was standing room only for Tuesday’s DAISY Award ceremony.
Registered Nurse Theresa Davis was announced as the recipient of the award that is given to a nurse that shows extraordinary patient care. Davis works in the Acute Care Department and has been with the medical center for two years. She described her reaction to receiving the award.

“It was a surprise even to be nominated because I work the night shift (and) we’re kind of the unseen heroes sometimes. I was a little shocked. I didn’t figure that I would win but it’s kind of exciting. I know the family that nominated me.”
During the ceremony, Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt said nurses are nominated for the award by patients and their families, co-workers or community members. She talked about having 12 nominees for the award, now in its fifth year with the medical center.
“I think it speaks to the excellent care that’s provided at Greene County Medical Center everyday. These nurses, as I said during the ceremony, think they’re just doing their job and it is truly apparent by the number of nominations that we receive that that is not the case. Patients see it as more than them just doing their job. It’s compassion, it’s that healing touch, it’s what a nurse does.”
Davis thanked her department for also playing a role as mentors and co-workers to make a great Acute Care Department. Davis also received the “Healer’s Touch” sculpture and new this year, the Acute Care Department will also receive free cinnamon rolls, courtesy of Jefferson resident Marianne Carlson.
