The Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn speech teams had a successful trip to Woodward-Granger High School for the District Large Group Speech Contest last Saturday.

Each school had several entries earn Division I ratings, advancing to the State contest which is now less than two weeks away. Perry had three of their seven entries advance, including their reader’s theater, titled “Fly Away Home,” and two ensemble acting pieces, titled “Allegory of Cats,” and “The Only Thing Between Me and Total Awesomeness.” Meanwhile, ADM sent 18 entries to District, and had eight varsity and one freshman group make it to State. The successful groups included: the freshman improv acting team of Avery Miller, Bri Young, and Celia Kreifels; a varsity improv team of Kale Kester, Grace Hatchitt, Max Weesner, and Seth Entriken; the reader’s theater, titled “Skin”; choral reading, titled “Mi Amigo: Tony’s Tribute”; the one act “Swagger”; a musical theater selection from “Matilda’’; the TV news entry called “A Day in Florida”; the short film “Merry Christmas, Mary-Anne”; and group mime, titled “Teen Pregnancy.”

The State contest will be held on Saturday, February 8th at Waukee High School. Entries that receive an overall “I” rating and judge’s recommendation at State will advance to the All-State Festival, to be held February 22nd at Iowa State University.
