The Perry boys and girls varsity basketball teams both started strong in their games Friday night, but lost their mojo against the visiting Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays, with the girls falling 67-32 and the boys losing 70-41 on senior night.

The Jayettes actually led after the first quarter by a score of 17-16, on the strength of 10 points from freshman Lydia Olejniczak. However those would be the only points she would score and the game was much more imbalanced after the first. Bondurant blitzed Perry in the second, to the tune of a 44-23 lead at halftime. Things didn’t improve much in the third and fourth quarters, with the visitors easily outpacing the hosts en route to the 67-32 victory. Senior Molly Lutmer put in 14 points to lead the Jayettes.

In the second matchup, there was once again a close first quarter, with Bondurant clawing their way to an 11-7 lead. However, the visiting Bluejays would go on a 39-6 run in the second quarter, claiming a 40-13 halftime lead. Perry managed to chip away at the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 17-12, but Bondurant put the hosts away in the fourth and left the gym with a 70-41 victory. Perry was led by senior Keghan West who had 17 points in the loss.

The losses drop the Perry girls to 6-15 and the boys to 3-16, and ensures the Jayettes went winless in Raccoon River Conference play. The boys will hit the hardwood again on Monday, hosting North Polk in a non-conference tilt. The girls meanwhile will hit the road to play this same Bondurant-Farrar team on Wednesday in the first game of the Regional tournament.
