The indoor track & field season starts on Monday for the Greene County High School girls with the boys’ season beginning on Tuesday. Both Greene County teams will be competing inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls at the A.D. Dickinson Relays.

A number of girls and boys with Drake Relays and State Meet experience return. Among those is junior Makala Kafer. She’s a sprinter, who mentioned she may be moved up to 800 meters at times, although that is not yet definite.

Kafer told Raccoon Valley Radio what she likes about track & field. “I think track is a great sport because it’s very individual, but also has relays and the team aspect. It’s also great to get closer with teammates, especially this year with smaller numbers. It’s good bonding and good relationships between everybody, and it’s just fun! Plus, it’s good weather…sometimes!”

Derek Merk is the Greene County girls’ head coach.
