The Jefferson Police Department is reminding residents about a street sweeping ordinance for a certain area of the City.

Police Chief Mark Clouse says the City’s ordinance prohibits anyone from parking in the downtown City block area from 2-6am on Mondays and Fridays from April through October, to allow for the street sweeper to clean the streets. He describes what area the ordinance covers.

“There is a defined area that we call ‘the square.’ The square area (is) basically the City square and one block outside of the City square. That’s the basic, rough estimate of the City square area.”

Clouse encourages those who need to park in that area to use the designated city parking lots including west of City Hall and north of the Jefferson Elks Lodge. He adds anyone can call the law enforcement center in Jefferson to get the exact perimeter of the ordinance and officers will issue parking violations.
