“Let’s play two!” Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Ernie Banks was quoted as saying. That’s what North Polk (Alleman) and Greene County will do today and tonight at Allensworth Field in Jefferson after being weathered out of a scheduled June 22 contest. Game one is at 5 p.m., and game two will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. There will be no JV game.
The Rams are 1-8 overall and in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Comets are 7-5 on the season and have a team batting average of .318, or nearly 100 points more than the Rams.
This is the last scheduled action between the Comets and Rams as NP will be joining Gilbert after the summer moving conferences from the HOIAC to the Raccoon River.
The Rams are scheduled to play four games this week, all at home. After tonight’s doubleheader, PCM (Monroe) is set to visit Allensworth Field on Wednesday, followed by a Thursday visit from Roland-Story (Story City). The regular season ends on Monday, July 13 in Nevada with the postseason season starting on Friday, July 17.
