Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Schools are getting closer to reaching their fundraising goal to purchase new equipment for the new weight room/fitness center that’s under construction, thanks to community members’ support and a matching donation campaign.

Guthrie County State Bank has agreed to match every dollar donated for weights, machines, turf, and other equipment for up to $25,000, totalling $50,000 that will help surpass the estimated cost of $160,000 that Activities Director Cody Matthewson has spearheaded fundraising. Matthewson says the new facility which is being added onto the southwest side of the high school will be an asset for ACGC, “I mean it’s been great support from all of our communities and the families. You know we’ve talked about not only is this going to be very beneficial for our students but it’s going to be a facility for our staff to use and the community where they can purchase memberships and that membership money is going to go right back into purchasing new equipment, new treadmills and cardio equipment, and being able to update that stuff and give us one of the nicest, state-of-the-art facilities that we have.”

The new facility is expected to open around November, which is being funded by Secure an Advanced Vision for Education funds. Donations for the equipment can be dropped off at the drive-through window at Guthrie County State Bank, through a GoFundMe page, or mailed to AC/GC School District, ATTN: Equipment, 906 School Street, Guthrie Center, Iowa, 50115.
