The Democrat candidate for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District is hitting up each Greene County community as part of his “Every Town Tour.”

J.D. Scholten is traveling to every town in the district, including those in Greene County. He visited Dana, Grand Junction, Scranton and Cooper Sunday. In Cooper, about 30 people attended to hear the candidate that lost by three-percentage points in the 2018 election to Republican Steve King and what he had to say. Scholten spoke about putting in the extra effort to go out and see people and he talked about his late grandmother being his inspiration to run for Congress as he fights for rural revitalization, access to technology and enforcing antitrust laws.

Scholten described how his campaign and holding these kinds of events helps his cause.

“When you show up just once, you’ll get people to vote for you. You show up the second time, people start getting engaged, and that third time we got people far beyond us just completely fighting for you, and changing other people’s minds. I mean that’s literally grassroots campaign, and I know grassroots gets thrown around so easily, but that’s it. It’s about connecting with people and where they’re at, and I believe that that is how you win races in western Iowa and in the 4th District.”

Scholten will finish his campaign stops in Greene County tomorrow. He will be in Paton and Churdan during the day, with his main event taking place in Jefferson 7pm in the former middle school parking lot for a “Drive-In” campaign stop. Attendees are required to stay in their vehicles for proper social distancing and listen to Scholten on an FM radio frequency. Volunteers will help attendees find parking spaces starting at 6:30pm. The event is free and open to the public.
