Wednesday night saw Greene County and Paton-Churdan play postseason volleyball second round matches on the road. The Rams were at Humboldt in a Class 3A Region 2 semifinal while the Rockets traveled to Ackley for a 1A Regional vs. AGWSR.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams fell to number 10 Humboldt in three sets. Scores were 17-25, 11-25, 9-25. Greene County ends the season with a record of 8-19 while Humboldt advances to the Region 2 final with a record of 32-3. The match was the last for the Rams for seniors Eliza Carlson, Lily Muir, and Brianna Osterson.

The only time the Rams led all night was in set three at 3-2. Humboldt went on a 10-0 run at that point and cruised to the set and match victory. The Rams took the lead on three kills by Osterson.

Coach Tressa Rasmussen’s Rockets were 9-9 entering play last night and AGWSR was 9-16. AGWSR won the match in three sets by scores of 15-25, 20-25, 15-25. The coach said AGWSR ran a quick offense and had some of the best hitters the Rockets faced all season.

Danielle Hoyle had 13 of the Rockets 20 kills on the night with five from Karissa Stephenson. Hoyle had all four of the Rockets’ blocks, and she added 15 digs to go with three ace serves and a 10 for 10 night at the service line. Carmyn Paup was eight for eight serving with two aces and Stephenson was 11 for 11 with one ace serve. The P-C team went 57 of 59 serving with seven aces.
