The Greene County School Board recently approved a calendar change to help teachers with students who are learning remotely.

The Board approved at their meeting on October 21st for early dismissals on Mondays for all buildings starting next month. Superintendent Tim Christensen explains the stress that teachers are experiencing this year, due to COVID-19.

“It’s an extreme challenge for the teachers to work with the students they have in the building, as well as the remote learners. They’re struggling (and) it’s a challenge for everybody, but the teachers, especially. They are working hard and doing a fantastic job.”

Monday early dismissals will be 1:30pm for middle school, 1:35pm for elementary, and 1:45 for high school. Christensen notes that because of this shift in the calendar, the District is willing to provide free daycare for the month of November.

“In order to help out families, because I know transportation will need to be arranged, daycare potentially needs to be arranged. So for parents that have a K-5 student, we are going to provide daycare – if needed – from immediately after school until 6 o’clock (pm) at no charge.”

Parents who need daycare for the Mondays in November must be responsible for picking up their child. They also need to contact the elementary or middle school buildings to notify staff that their child will need daycare.
