The final piece of the new Greene County High School project is almost complete.

Greene County School District Owner’s Representative Sam Harding says the auditorium is filled with lots of technological advantages. He points out the 700-seat facility has a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, along with a professional rigging system, which is where different scenery can be raised and lowered for theatrical and other productions..

“We have one that you would see in C.Y. Stephens (Auditorium in Ames) or (the Des Moines) Civic Center, that level of a rigging system is what we have. The rigging system itself came from a company in New York City that sells them (for) On Broadway (productions). It’s that level of equipment.”

Harding notes with the professional level of technology in the auditorium sparked another educational opportunity for the district.

“There’s a potential career track there that we haven’t even thought about now that is huge for jobs. I mean video production, audio production is huge. There’s tons of careers in that and good money jobs that you don’t have to go to college for.”

Harding says the auditorium is being turned over to the district and one of the first events that is being planned for the new facility is the high school’s spring musical of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
